Twice convicted, Amanda Knox legal woes can last years

Amanda Knox prepares to leave the set following a television interview, Friday in New York. Knox said she will fight the reinstated guilty verdict against her and an ex-boyfriend in the 2007 slaying of a British roommate in Italy.(Photo: Mark Lennihan AP)

Story Highlights
  • Amanda Knox has now been convicted twice in 2007 stabbing death of her roommate
  • Her first conviction was vacated on appeal
  • Italy's supreme court dismissed that ruling and ordered a new trial

Amanda Knox's legal problems could last years longer if Italy seeks her extradition now that she was found guilty a second time in the 2007 death of her college roommate in Italy.

And U.S. legal experts disagree on whether she can successfully fight an attempt by Italy to imprison her should she lose her final appeal in that country.

Paul Rothstein, who teaches criminal and constitutional law at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, says extradition is not automatic despite the existence of an extradition treaty between Italy and the United States.

"There's always an escape hatch if the proceedings there are considered unfair or there's some other reason for not extraditing," Rothstein said.

"In my opinion the proceedings in Italy did not meet even fundamental standards of fairness," Rothstein said.

The Italian prosecutor had a history of proceeding in cases that were baseless, some evidence was not considered, and DNA evidence was inconclusive and not to U.S. standards, Rothstein said.

Also, since Knox's first conviction was vacated on appeal, U.S. officials may consider the case in light of the U.S. prohibition on double jeopardy, or being tried twice for the same crime, he said.

"There would be considerable attention to the double jeopardy problem," Rothstein said.

Washington defense lawyer Ty Cobb, who handled Italian extradition requests as a former federal prosecutor, disagrees. Knox's case has followed the standard process in European courts, which are generally accepted in the USA, Cobb said.

"There is no double jeopardy issue," he said, because that rule applies only to previous convictions in U.S. courts. "Since the U.S. didn't reach a verdict here, it's not really a consideration. Every time this has been heard by a trial court (Knox) was convicted."

Knox, who was in Seattle when the court verdict was reached Thursday, was sentenced to 28 1/2 years for the murder of British exchange student Meredith Kercher in 2007.

Knox and Kercher shared a home in Perugia, an Italian university town where the two women were exchange students. The 21-year-old's throat had been slashed and there was evidence she had been raped.

Prosecutors allege Kercher, 21, was killed in a sex and drug game with a drifter, Knox and Knox's former Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. Knox and Sollecito say the story was a lie and that neither was in the house when Kercher was killed.

DNA evidence at the home implicated an Ivory Coast drifter, Rudy Guede, who was convicted in the case and is serving a 16-year sentence. Knox's defense lawyers say that Guede was the sole killer but that he implicated Knox, then 20, at the urging of prosecutors who promised him a lesser sentence.

Knox and Sollecito were found guilty in 2009 and jailed but cleared in 2011 after a hearing revealed that police had tainted much of the critical evidence in the case, and that DNA evidence was handled improperly. In a stunning find, experts determined that the kitchen knife prosecutors said was the murder weapon contained no blood or DNA from Kercher.

Both Knox and Sollecito were released after spending four years in prison.

But Italy's supreme court called the Court of Cassation later dismissed the acquittal based on what it said was key evidence that had been omitted during the appeal, and ordered a new trial, which concluded Thursday with a restoration of the conviction.

If Knox appeals she would have to turn to the Court of Cassation again. If she loses, Italy can then request the United States turn her over to serve her sentence. Cobb says Italian prosecutors would wait until the conviction is final and faces no more appeals in Italian courts.

If that happens, Italy's court must submit an extradition request to Italy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which would make the official request to the U.S. State Department through the Italian embassy in Washington, according to a Justice Department description of the process.

State would forward the request to the Office of International Affairs at the Justice Department's Criminal Division. After making sure documents provided by Italy support the request, a federal prosecutor could then seek an arrest warrant and Knox would be brought before a federal magistrate for a hearing to determine whether the fugitive is extraditable.

Knox's lawyers could try to challenge her extradition at this point, say lawyers.

If the court finds the fugitive to be extraditable, notice is sent to the Secretary of State, who decides whether to surrender the fugitive to the requesting government, according to the Justice Department description.

The verdict means Knox is at risk of being grabbed by authorities in any country she visits that has an extradition treaty with Italy. If Italy learned of her whereabouts it could lodge an immediate request of that country to detain her. And a foreign country may not have the same legal protections as the United States.

"She can be arrested anywhere outside the United States where they have an extradition treaty with Italy," he said.

Hubbard Scientific Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions Kit Buyer Review

I was very disappointed to receive a fake tub with often void materials worth just a few dollars. This kit must be priced at $30-$40, and even that would be generous. The chemicals are Sodium Chloride (table salt!) and calcium chloride void as DampRid for $1.00 at any Home Depot for this amount! A bunch of foam and fake cups. OK, a few thermometers. Able idea to make money off...TEACHERS! Shame on you, Hubbard Scientific! Shame on me for being too busy instruction and falling for such an overpriced product.I quickly (surrounded by two days) mailed it back, and the Amazon send somebody a proclamation showed that it was expected, yet I expected an email that it was never returned, and that my credit card was charged for it! Jay Leno In-Depth: Post-'Tonight' Plans, Kimmel's Insults, Zucker, What He ...

It's approaching 5:30 p.m. on a mid-January evening as Jay Leno collapses into a seat in his Tonight Show greenroom. He's just wrapped another show, his 4,599th, and his exhaustion is palpable. What isn't are the kind of emotions -- sentimental, apprehensive -- one would expect from a guy two weeks away from wrapping a two-decade-plus run as host of the No. 1 late-night show. But Leno, 63, insists he's made peace with NBC's decision to turn the storied franchise over to Late Night's Jimmy Fallon, 39, in a way he hadn't when the network did the same with Conan O'Brien in 2009.

"Unlike the last time, this time he's just kind of moving on," says his longtime Tonight Show writer-producer Jack Coen, who, like many, acknowledges he didn't think Leno would be able to do so. After all, Leno is not only one of the most fiercely competitive comics on television, but also, arguably, the hardest-working. In addition to a nightly show, for which the married comedian famously avoids vacations and sick days, he crisscrosses the country doing some 150 stand-up gigs per year.

STORY: Former 'Letterman' Writer on Execs' Late-Night Strategy: 'Get Me Anyone Named Jimmy!'

But the past half-decade has been trying, beginning with his failed 10 p.m. NBC talk show followed by a return to Tonight that had an ousted O'Brien and his loyal fan base enraged. In the four years since he returned to the late-night show he inherited from Johnny Carson in 1992, he has had to lay off about 20 employees, cut his reported $30 million salary substantially to save other staffers and, in March 2013, be told once again that he'd need to pass the torch to a younger comedian -- all the while maintaining his show's status as No. 1 in viewers (3.8 million, on average) and advertising revenue (upwards of $125 million, per Kantar Media).

Though Leno has yet to actively engage with a flurry of executives -- including CNN's Jeff Zucker, producer Jeff Gaspin and CORE Media's Marc Graboff -- interested in his next act, those close to him suggest another daily talk show is unlikely. In the near term, he hints at more stand-up and the possibility of expanding JayLenosGarage.com, a website devoted to his car collection.

In an extensive interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he opened up about all of the digs his fellow comedians have taken at him, the advice he's given to his successor and why doing another nightly talk show a la Tonight "wouldn't make a lot of sense."

So what happens Feb.7? You'll wake up that morning and ?

Get on a plane and go to Florida. I was a stand-up comedian first and then I got this job, and I still do at least two or three dates a week. It'll be kind of fun to be on the road as a comedian again. I think I'll like it.

What are your emotions as the final show approaches?

It's not really sad. It's been a really good run and you have to be realistic. I think it's safe to say if NBC didn't have somebody in the bullpen, I might be here a little bit longer and I get that. But it's like sports: You got a pitcher that's 39 years old and he's still throwing good, and then you've got a 19-year-old guy, you've got to move on. Johnny was 66 when he left. This always felt about the right age. The last time I got canned I said that it didn't really seem natural at 57 to be leaving, but 63, 64 feels about right.

What will you miss most?

I'm a creature of habit. I like coming to work every day. I like the people I work with. I think our writing staff is probably the highest-paid because they've been here the longest. Most of the writers have been here 20 years; producers have been here all 22 years. Everybody's been here since the beginning. People say it's a family, which is a little hokey, but it is. Mr. Fezziwig from the Dickens Christmas Carol was always my role model.

There's this dichotomy between that image and the one pushed by comics like Jimmy Kimmel, David Letterman and Conan O'Brien. How did that happen?

The mere fact that I don't answer or respond to those probably allows it to. I don't get into public feuds with other comics.

Don't you ever have the urge to fire back?

But that doesn't serve the purpose. Rich people whining and complaining? Shut up. You make more money than 99 percent of the population and you're complaining and whining. My job is to go out there and be a comedian. That's what I do. "This guy said this! Well I want to tell him " I don't know what that is. That doesn't do anything. And in the real world, when most people get home -- policemen, doctors -- they turn on The Tonight Show to hears some jokes, not "Well I want to tell you what "

So you just take it as Kimmel takes shot after shot?

I don't think it gets you anything [to respond]. You mention Jimmy Kimmel, I've never answered any of his things. I pick up The New York Times and it's, "F--- Jay Leno," "F--- Jay Leno." And I go, "OK, based on what?" But it's fine. I think he's a funny guy. I did his show and I didn't have any problem with him. He comes from radio where you pick a fight with the other guy. I don't do that. It's fine. There's plenty of room for everybody.

How do you feel as you read "F--- Jay Leno"?

Is it a joke? Is it funny? You know, Letterman and I have had a fun relationship because when Letterman says something, it's funny. "F--- Jay?" Is there anyone that reads that and says, "Ah! Clever! He said 'F--- Jay.' " And then he said it again! And then the next day, he said it again! Dave would always have something funny to say [about me], and I would watch Dave and go, "OK, that's pretty good." That's really the difference.

How would you characterize your relationship with Letterman?

Dave and I have an interesting relationship in that when he came to town I think he admired my ability to perform and I admired his ability to weave sentences and phrases. When he would get up at the Comedy Store, he was not a natural stand-up, so he was a little nervous. I think he'd watch me and I would just sort of plow ahead and be loud. He sort of admired that, and I admired his ability to be subtle. So I learned from Dave the subtleties of doing a joke, and I think he learned from me how to really sell a joke. So there was always a mutual admiration, and we always made each other laugh.

When this chapter is over and you're not competing head-to-head, will you spend time with each other again?

Well I don't know if it's not that comics spend a lot of time together. It's just that you pick it up where you left off the last time. It's an interesting relationship.

Letterman recently sat down with Oprah, and in addition to saying you were the funniest person he'd ever known, he said you were "the most insecure." Fair?

That struck me as funny because I don't quite get that one at all. No, I don't think I'm insecure at all. That actually made me raise an eyebrow. Where did Dave get that?

You've talked about how uncomfortable your mother was with attention. How comfortable are you?

My mother came from Scotland and she was always like, "The worst thing you can do is call attention to yourself." So I would always try to be on the outside looking in, just keeping it right below a rolling boil.

She's the reason the show was renamed The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, not "starring" as it will be once again be with Fallon, correct?

Yeah. It was going to be "starring," but then my mother started, "Starring Mr. Big Shot! Mr. Who's Who!" I go, "All right, mom. I'll make it 'with Jay Leno.' " So that's what we did. But it's not uncomfortable [for me]. There's a little, 'OK, thank you. That's enough.'

If the latest NBC plan with Fallon and Meyers does not work out, would you come back?

No.

You wouldn't?

No, because last time I was told, "You're leaving"; this time, honestly, I was asked. When I signed [my last contract], I said, "This about the last go-round? OK." I was going to leave in September and then they said, "We have the Olympics and we'd like to launch Jimmy early. What if you left six months early? Would you do that?" And we said, "Does the staff get paid? OK, fine." We could have stayed until the end of the contract, but we said, "OK, we'll go six months early and give Jimmy a good launching pad and all that kind of stuff." And I genuinely like Jimmy and I think that he's the guy most like Johnny was when he started, silly and very musical. A lot of people don't know that Johnny played drums and did all kinds of things, too. When I watched Jimmy do a number with Justin Timberlake, I thought, 'Well, I can't do that.' There's clearly a huge generation gap between me and Jimmy. I mean, it's 23 years. I guess that's two generations almost. It makes sense.

At the same time, you're still the No. 1 show on TV, which has some questioning the logic

But that becomes diminishing returns. The numbers that keep you No. 1 today would have got you canceled 15 or 20 years ago. It's all relative, but I get it. And you should leave while you're No. 1. You don't want to drift down and then eventually the place is boarded up one day. The Tonight Show has always moved on when it was strongest.

What advice have you given Fallon?

We've talked on the phone. He's very good at what he does. The only thing I'd say is that the strength of The Tonight Show has always been the monologue. The late-night shows that have failed are the ones where the monologue was weak -- two minutes, three minutes. We do 14 minutes every night, which is almost a sitcom. It's a lot of jokes, but for a lot of people it's how they get their news. There are really only 18 celebrities in the world that mean anything rating-wise, if it's even that many.

PHOTOS: Jimmy Fallon: From Early 'SNL' to Movie Star to 'Late Night'

Who's on that list?

The people you'd think. Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, those sorts of people. And then after that, not a whole lot. So they have to have a reason to come to the show. You also have to remember you're reaching a broad market. And it's not about my politics. A lot of performers want people to know their politics. I remember a young comedian on the show, his opening line was, "I'm a Democrat." Well, he lost half the crowd. Your job is to be funny first and maybe your message is third or fourth down the line. You're a comedian. But this is what happens: They start out as comedians, then they become satirists, then they become humorists, then they're out of the business.

So there really is no plan with regard to what's next?

No. Do I have all kinds of offers? Sure.

Is TV as a platform still appealing to you?

I don't know if you can make lightning strike twice. If you come back and you're not No. 1, it's "Jay stinks!" "Jay sucks!" This worked really good and for 22 years it was the No. 1 show and it was great. We have a great team here. I'm not sure it can be re-created again.

You're a fiercely competitive guy, would you be OK coming back and not being No. 1?

Sure. But it's not that you're No. 1, it's that you've got to be successful for the people you work for. Not that long ago, I was in Vegas and they said, "Tickets sales are down." I said, "Cut the ticket prices in half and pay me half." They did, and it sold out. I can't spend this money anyway, so why not? And now they're happy, they're making money. It's very simple. When these shows become too expensive to produce, you move on and do the next thing.

A lot of people have approached you about what's next. What's the wildest offer?

Most of them are very similar to what I do, and to do the "Tonight Show Lite" wouldn't make a lot of sense. I do have this Jay Leno's Garage channel and that's been really successful. I really enjoy that and it's different from what I do here so consequently I'm not competing against the shadow of my former self.

You mention Tonight Show Lite, and some would argue that's what Conan has done with his TBS show. Fair?

I don't want to comment on anybody else. Then it looks like I'm commenting on what he's chosen to do. It's hard because I don't I sort of let myself be the punching bag. It's fine. You do what you got to do.

Have you spoken to him since he left NBC?

No.

Have you thought about calling him?

Why would I do that? No. God no.

There's been talk about Jeff Zucker expressing interest in you for CNN.

A lot of people are interested

But you and Zucker have a rich history, including the chapter when he dumped you for Conan. There's no grudge?

No, because Jeff believed in The Tonight Show. When we did The Tonight Show [during his tenure atop NBC], if there was a big star in New York and we wanted them tomorrow night, Jeff would say, "Authorize the jet. Find $25,000. We want them." Boom. Those kinds of things don't necessarily happen anymore.

What happens now?

It's just different. Jeff comes from a talk show background. He did the Today show, so he understands what's necessary for a daily show. You do whatever you have to do to get guests, no matter what it costs. You worry about it later. He was always very helpful that way. The fact that other things didn't work out? OK, I get it.

There was a period last winter when you were taking some digs at NBC's dismal ratings on air and NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt got upset. Then you two had this dinner where you discussed the transition and we were told you walked away feeling good about everything. What happened at that dinner?

I still feel good about it. What did we talk about? The fact that my staff would be paid through September, so everybody's taken care of -- whatever I got, everybody else should get. That was pretty much what it was. I mean, we talk quite a bit. I like Bob. Sound of Music was a big hit, which made everything a lot easier.

Knowing what you know now, would you have done the 10 p.m. Jay Leno Show?

People have said, "Why didn't you go somewhere else?" NBC is my home. This is the only network I've ever worked at -- Local 33, the crew, hair, makeup, they're the people I've always worked with. If I had gone somewhere else, I couldn't have taken any of my people with me. And they said, "Look, if you do this 10 o'clock show, it will be a smooth transition. We'll continue to pay everybody, same offices, same everything." So I said, "All right, let's give it a try and see what happens." It didn't work out. I don't quite get what all the big deal was; there are failed TV shows every season. The thing that really surprised me was all these threats that I was putting all these 10 o'clock [scripted] shows out of business.

How surprised were you by the backlash when you returned to The Tonight Show?

Not really. I think you have to have the ability to look back and try to figure out what went wrong. When we came back at 11:30 p.m., my 10 p.m. lead-ins were worse than my lead-in to Conan, by far. But you just keep your head down and do the work. I think you can complain about your lead-in among your staff and maybe to executives, but going public with it doesn't get you anything. If anybody really believes that their show didn't work because of our lead-in, I think that's being a bit naive.

Whom do you turn to for advice when you're going through tough periods like that one? Who is in the inner circle?

There's not a lot of angst here. I'm not one of those people who gets wildly depressed or overly happy. There's a phrase I like, and it's rather crude: "Don't fall in love with a hooker." And that's really what show business is. I have a wonderful wife. We've been together for 34 years. I have the same friends I had in high school. I have my guys that work in my garage. And then there are comedians like Jerry Seinfeld, Larry Miller and Jimmy Brogan. That's sort of the group. But when I pick up an article that says, "Jay Leno sucks. He stinks," I don't get any more depressed than when I pick up one that says, "Jay Leno is the funniest person." I don't really believe either of them.

Your lawyer, Ken Ziffren, handles all of your deals. You've never had an agent. Will you consider one when you start to explore what's next?

If you're any good, people will find you. I always tell comics if you're on at the Improv, The Laugh Factory or The Comedy Store every night of the week and you're any good, they will find you. Believe me, they will find you. You might need an agent to guide you through the waters a bit, but for the most part the work is what sells you.

When you leave this time, where do you think your viewers will go?

I don't know. I think most of them will probably stay with The Tonight Show. I can't imagine why they wouldn't.

Well, it's a very different show, as you said.

Yeah, but it was a different show when I took over from Johnny. It's funny to be on the other side now. It's rather amusing.

So, there's no resentment?

You can't be [resentful]. What does anger get you? What does negativity get you? It doesn't get you anything. Now you're like the creepy old guy.

You've not spent any of your Tonight Show money over the years. You don't have kids. What are you saving for?

I get a lot of grief about that. When I was a kid, I always had two jobs and I'd bank one job and live on the money from the other job. When I was working at a car dealership, I'd spend my comedy money because it wasn't much and I'd bank the car money. Then when the comedy money got bigger than the car money, I'd bank the comedy money. Then I came into TV, and the TV money is bigger than the personal appearance money, so let me bank that. I just have one credit card, I didn't have a mortgage. I'm really simple that way. It's just easier. We have some scholarship things and my wife does a lot for women's rights. We do a lot of benefits, and there are some other things.

Will do you more philanthropic work?

I enjoy doing all of that, but it's hard to talk about those kinds of things. It's funny, Americans like everyone to know the good work they're doing anonymously. "I don't want to talk about this, but you know we've donated " Oh shut up, Whiny Rich People!

When do you plan to make a decision about the next phase of your career?

Not for awhile. I'll tell you something: I was in Atlantic City on a Saturday night [not too long ago] and I went down to the local comedy club and went out to eat with a bunch of new comics. We just sat and talked about comedy. I thought, "This is fun." This is what you used to do when you were starting out. I hardly know any of the new comics anymore because I'm not in the clubs. So it'll be fun to go back to the clubs and hang out a little bit.

Have you considered doing a residency in Las Vegas?

Oh, I don't want "The Jay Leno Room" in Vegas. That's annoying. Anything with your name on it is annoying. I didn't like the idea of The Jay Leno Show at 10 p.m. I remember saying to them back in the 1980s, "Anything with your name on it is annoying and it's not going to work." I've been proven right, obviously.

Do you think you'll watch the other late-night shows when you finish here?

Of course. I watch the other shows now.

You do?

You have to watch every monologue two weeks behind you because we live in an age where nobody ever does a joke that's similar. It's always "Stolen!" If Chris Christie is fat and you do a joke about it, it's: "Well, two weeks ago he did a joke about that. Leno stole it!" So everyday when we're doing the monologue, I say, "Well, that was too close to what Dave said," or "That's too close to what Ferguson said."

Looking back, what were the highlights for you?

The ones that stand out are usually the ones that have some basis in reality. When I was in the fifth grade, I had to write a paper about John Glenn circling the Earth. And then in 1998 when John Glenn went up at the age of 78 to circle the Earth again, I had him on the show. I called my fifth grade teacher, who had given me a C, and I said to him, "I want an upgrade. I did a follow-up." It was fascinating to me to have genuine American heroes on the show. Having the first sitting president on the late-night show was really exciting. There are a lot of moments that really were exciting. OK, there were a few reality stars that weren't that exciting. But for the most part, it's overwhelming and I still have that sense of wonderment about it.

How have you maintained that wonderment over time? I don't really go to Hollywood functions and what not because I like being an outsider. I like feeling like a regular person talking to this big-time celebrity. People go, "You have a TV show, you're famous," but when you don't go to Hollywood hangouts and do all of that stuff you feel like the guy from Des Moines who just got into town. I think that was one of the secrets to why this show worked. People felt like, "I'm more like Jay than I am like the star. I'll watch the star through Jay." That was Johnny's great gift. I remember once when Dean Martin came out in the 1960s, and he had a pair of Italian loafers on, handmade, and Johnny went, "Wow, look at those shoes! How much do those shoes cost?" Dean said, "$300," which would be like $2,000 now. And Johnny went, "$300? Woooah," like every guy in America. Johnny could afford 1 million pairs of those shoes, but that wasn't the point. He was relatable. It's like you drive a Corvette, you get the thumbs-up; you drive a Ferrari, they give you the finger. It's because the average guy can aspire to own a Corvette, he's never going to have a Ferrari. That's really the difference. That's an interesting analogy from a guy who has hundreds of cars Yeah, but a bunch of them are Corvettes. I don't have any Ferraris. Who will be the guest or guests that you'll see on another show and think to yourself, "I wish I got to be sitting in the chair asking the questions?"

There will be new candidates for president or whatever it might be, and you'd say, "That would be fun to do." The politicians are always my favorite.

Why?

Because it's real. They're not playing a role. When I interview Superman or Batman, I'm not actually talking to Superman or Batman. I'm talking to a guy playing Superman or Batman. When you talk to Bill Clinton or Bob Dole or Barack Obama, you're talking to a possible president of the U.S. or [current] president of the U.S.

What do you hope people will remember about your tenure at The Tonight Show?

People can debate whether something was funny or not funny -- it's pretty subjective -- but what you can't change are the numbers. My job was to have the No. 1 show. I was given the No. 1 talk show and for the last 20 years, we've been the No. 1 talk show all the way through. That's what you look at.

Estes UP Aerospace SpaceLoft Rocket Bulk Pack (Pack of 12) Customer Reviews

Great price. The rockets arrived on time and is just so what I needed. We teach science classes and this is the best rocket to make and launch in the 90 minutes allotted to us.
- JCN21

I have an annual rocket launch (we call it "Blast Off to Summer") with my Cub Scout's Den and try to get a different rocket every year. Last year I made the mistake of being paid the ones with the document fins you glue on. We had many, many wayward rockets. These with the plastic fins are much best for beginner and childish rocket builders!
- Devin K. Williams

Just fine for median school age first time rocket builders. Used in a school background. Always verify engine size - these take the smaller.
- Richard Danahy

Our local academe's Rocket Club ran out of rockets and funding, so I purchased this bulk pack for them to do with local family tree. We had lots of great blast-offs with tons of awed spectators!I might have even felt a sonic boom. Just kidding, but the rockets went really high.
- J

They screwed me over. Beware. This review is for there service more so than the product but I could not give reasons for their service in 400 characters. I am a leader of my son’s cub scout pack. I am organizing a “Rocket Into Fall Campout” for the pack of 40 or so kids that will be attendance. I bought 2 lecturer packs of rockets (12 each as we already had some on hand), and order bulk packs of motors for a total of 51 motors. All the rockets came in as probable in the first batch but due to shipping restrictions on rocket motors they were probable to take longer. This was not an come forth as I had looked into that and planned for this yet to be of time. According to the site, they were probable to be delivered sometime between Friday and Tuesday a full week before our consequence. A modest faster than I wanted to call it but due additional issues on my end I had to wait in anticipation of the last minute to order. Thursday rolled around and still no motors were in the mail. I hunted for their number and gave them a call. This gentlemen who was selection me over the phone barely spoke English and it was very hard to be with you him. It sounded like I was discussion to someone in India. This was the first conundrum. He mentioned that they sent me an send by e-mail and were waiting for my response before sending. With dual checking my send by e-mail (including the deleted mail folder) there was NO send by e-mail from them. He said that they were waiting to see if I wanted them to still send the motors and that they could be here on Monday. Over again, on Thursday evening, he is in CA and I am in VA I told him BULL SH** you cannot get them here by Monday via USPS ground (the only way allowable to ship motors) and they are worthless to me then as I need them within 24 hours. Not a chance. Why the FU** would I order something and not want them shipped. I just could not be with you him sufficient to get an pledge out of him and I don’t think he was completely answering me anyway. He supposedly gave me my money back but I will have to try out my card to be sure of that. With calling every hobby shop in town while in panic mode, I establish sufficient to make equipment take place but I refined up export out 4 equipment in responsibility so. Just BEWARE! I SHOULD BACK CHARGE THEM THE EXTRA MONEY IT COST ME FOR THE HIGHER PRICE MOTORS, MY EXTRA GAS, AND TIME!

Learning Resources Crosssection Brain Model User Reviews

I am a psychoanalyst and evenly have a discussion including clients in this vicinity how the brain facility on a extremely important amount, above all thinking and in tears. I sought after a austere, non-overwhelming develop to be competent to trade show clients all owing to this description. I was so excited pro my brain to curve up keep pro was exceptionally disappointed including the genuine business. Most disappointing was including the intention of it didn't be inflicted including the amygdala or hippocampus planned among the parts. Also disappointing was including the intention of the two halves don't pause collectively except you call them. The further than is bleak extremely than the astute golden-haired publicized in the assumed character, and it's owing to of clarification reminiscent of a badger-toy. I reconcile this would be skilled pro family ranking which is why here are so loads of clear observations in this vicinity it, keep pro if you aspire it pro no matter what business additional than including the intention of, care for looking. As lone additional assessor understood (which I must be inflicted including heeded and didn't), "it's neither a toy nor an culture tool". I indeed probable to get on to a allocation extra pro the fee.
- JMac

This is a splendid brain for instruction. I did not give it a 5 since I would have liked it larger for classroom use. The kids did take pleasure in instant it around, looking at it, and feeling the creases in the brain. Insignia were caring.
- D. Dixon

This 'toy' has too much and too little information. It splits into 2 sections, each of which has the parts of the brain labeled. The print is small and the words large. The color is much more vibrant on Amazon than it is in reality - it's very dull. It is neither a toy nor an educational device. I'd look further.
- Leonard Travaglione

This cut is not at all as pictured. It's bleak and absolutely a dissipate of time for family tree or any additional purpose. Not fun, not educational, and a dissipate of time. Persistent promptly.
- Rating

Nice brain in arresting packaging. Very easy to hold.It is made out of soft foam - so if you have a dog(or small child)that likes to eat brains, you might want to keep it out of reach. It does not snap together, so it actually does not sight well. But it is a great model.I bought this on a whim, I hope one of my 3 daughters, (age 2,4,6) will be inspired to be a brain general practitioner and I can retire. Not a bads wish for a $14 investment.
- Joylene "Joylene"

This brain does not trade show the central lobes of the brain. Not guaranteed why. It is travelable save pro if you call for something more acurate, taste something moreover. This is fair pro young family or if it needs to be handled by a allocation of broadcast.
- anonymous

I ordered numerous of this product as visuals for my students as we considered the human brain in our high teach biology class. Above and additional than being a good visual for the students and a clever desktop reference, the kids loved the feel and mass of the develop. Numerous were attracted in perhaps owning one themselves because of the "play" the makings they saw in it, and I really liked the low fee, too.
- Claire Warfel

I can't believe anyone would pay the fee amazon is charging for this cut of junk and be lucky. It's two pieces of foam with paint and stickers on it. I have a 7 year old who LOVES Knowledge and is very sharp and this is inane to BORE her, yet 7+ is the not compulsory age. This is ridiculously over-simplified, over-priced, and NOT well-made at all. NOT lucky, would NOT urge.
- J. Sosnowski "Shirey Family"

This develop is color-coded and actually helped me gather the parts of the brain...It also has one semi with the intention of is not labeled, so with the intention of someone can quiz you or you can quiz yourself. This is great!!
- H. Becker "psychologist"

As working with parents, this small prop is helpful in explaining to them what's vacant on. I just pop commence the brain and point to different color-coded sections. They look to appreciate having the visual aid.For the kids, it's spongy, looks and feels funny, and they enjoy it. Place of protection't been hit by it yet as they throw equipment, that's also good. But if I am, I guess that this will not hurt so badly due to its spongy scenery.(Child psychologist specializing in developmental and behavioral disorders)

Chet Curtis, longtime Boston TV news anchor, has died

By Joseph P. Kahn/Globe Staff/January 23, 2014

Such was their stature during the golden age of local television news that mail sent to their WCVB-TV offices was often addressed simply to Chet and Nat, Boston, MA. For nearly three decades, beginning in the 1970s, Chet Curtis and Natalie Jacobson, married partners and boldfaced-name celebrities, formed a ratings-winning anchor team for whom viewers developed a strikingly familial affection.

Mr. Curtis, who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, died Wednesday night, according to his family. He was 74 years old.

The on-air chemistry and domestic union they were among the first married co-anchors paired together in a major television news market made Mr. Curtis and Ms. Jacobson media royalty in Boston. Even after the couples marriage came apart in 1999, followed by their on-air partnership, and Mr. Curtis moved to New England Cable News, where he anchored newscasts and hosted a nightly business show, he remained a revered figure in the broadcast news profession and a mentor to many journalists.

Mr. Curtis first teamed up with Jacobson in 1972, when they co-anchored Channel 5s midday newscast. In 1982, after working separately in different anchor configurations at the ABC network affiliate, they were reunited to lead the stations 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts, later taking over its 5 p.m. newscast as well. Earlier that same year, Mr. Curtis had helped launch Chronicle, Channel 5s long-running news-feature program.

In a fiercely competitive market driven by its on-air personalities, Channel 5 built a ratings powerhouse around its anchor duo, aided by a reporting team that included Martha Raddatz Bradlee, Clark Booth, David Ropeik, Ron Gollobin, Kirby Perkins, Susan Wornick, Jack Harper, and Chuck Kraemer.

But the unmistakable, and highly marketable, stars were Mr. Curtis and Jacobson. He was known as the mayor of the newsroom; she was the madonna of local broadcast news. They commanded six-figure salaries and rock-star status. Station management aggressively promoted them as Bostons First Couple, at one point making 5 Is Family its branding slogan. During holiday-themed promotional spots, Channel 5s news team and their families appeared together warbling Christmas carols.

Back then, it was like going to work for Google, recalled former Channel 5 news director Charles Kravetz, now general manager at radio station WBUR-FM. Viewership was growing exponentially, and Chet was an absolutely iconic figure in those years. He was low-key, with a wonderful sense of humor and journalistic ethics. A real reporter, too, who always put the self-important nature of TV news in perspective.

Jack Hynes was an anchorman at Channel 5 who worked with Mr. Curtis for several decades. Today, Hynes called his former colleague an anchorman people could believe in. Mr. Curtis, Hynes said, was a journalist, not a news presenter.

It takes two things to be a good anchor. You have to be credible and likeable and Chet had both in spades, said Hynes. He had a thing that transmits from the studio to the living room and people locked onto that. If he said the moon was blue, people would think maybe the moon is blue.

Hynes said he would talk to Mr. Curtis every April 15. They both shared the same birthday.

We would always say we cheated the calendar again, Hynes recalled.

To WGBH-TV and radio host Emily Rooney, a former news director at WCVB, the respect Mr. Curtis commanded among camera operators and studio crew speaks volumes about his professionalism. Beyond his personal likability, Rooney wrote in an e-mail, There is no single human being in the world, Peter Jennings included, who was better at the ad lib than Chet.

Mr. Curtis could talk tall ships and sloops, the Queen and her royal entourage, the Pope and Synod II there was no issue too trite or complex for Chet, she observed. If he had to fill 8 hours of airtime for a major snowstorm his rich detail left you wanting more, even if he was really repeating the same thing in different words.

Writing in 2000, Globe media critic Mark Jurkowitz delivered the opinion that Mr. Curtis and Jacobsons on-air partnership had made them symbols of stability and class in local news, turning Channel 5 into one of the countrys most highly regarded local news stations.

In doing so, the couple had virtually become household members in the eyes (and hearts) of many loyal viewers. In 1975, when the two were married each for the second time at the Old North Church, it was front-page news in Boston. A year later, they were profiled in People magazine. The birth of their daughter Lindsay, in 1981, garnered even more page one headlines.Continued...

Anatomical Skull Model, Didactic Color Painted, 3-Part, Life Size Buyer ReviewI love this skull... it was in excellent shape up, well wrapped... the only thing and not a big take care of business at all was the laminated "card" of bone descriptions was kinda shoved in the packing box (and didn't need to be, there was plenty of opportunity to lay flat) was folded and bent. I positioned at the underside of my tome shelf to amount it. It will have a permanent rumple in it. I don't know if the peddler packs it or Amazon, but it was kind of careless. But over again, it really isn't a big take care of business, the skull is perfect, the hinge on the the mandible is really tight, brand new.

After Sunanda Pushkar's death, end of the road for Shashi Tharoor's political ...

MG Radhakrishnan Thiruvananthapuram,January 19, 2014| UPDATED14:26 IST

The cause of 52-year-old Sunanda Pushkar's "sudden and unnatural" death will come to light much later according to doctors who did the autopsy. But the fate of her 57-year-old husband Shashi Tharoor's five-year-old political career now looks highly uncertain. It dangles precariously on the brink. The doctors who did the autopsy have already dropped hints which could prove fatal to Tharoor's political career. They ruled out any natural cause for Pushkar's death, including any terminal illness, contrary to what was made out by those close to Tharoor.

Sunanda Pushkar and Shashi Tharoor in happier times.

This included some top Congress leaders from Kerala. The doctors also said there was no trace of poison in her body. However, they categorically stated that there were injuries on Pushkar's body and that whether it was the cause of her death would be known only after detailed examination. This implies that the cause of Pushkar's death could either be an accident, suicide or murder.

However, many forensic experts expressed surprise at the AIIMS doctors' insistence on "sudden and unnatural" death. "Such an entity does not exist in forensic language. There could be sudden and natural death but not sudden unnatural death," said Dr Ajay Balachandran, a forensic expert.

(Far Right) Shashi Tharoor with Sunanda Pushkar's body on Saturday evening.

If it is proved to be an accident, Tharoor's political fortunes may escape without much muck. But if either of the other two -- suicide or homicide -- is the cause, it would grievously affect Tharoor's political career at a time when he could easily win for the second time in the coming Lok Sabha polls from Thiruvananthapuram. However, even if the death was natural or an accident, it would be unlikely for Tharoor to don a candidate's role as elections are barely months away.

But if the death is proved a case of suicide, it would seriously affect Tharoor's career. His political opponents have already seized the opportunity. BJP's national leadership has already pointed fingers at Tharoor. The CPI-M in Kerala has called for a criminal inquiry. India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), the CPI-M's women's organisation, has already called for Tharoor's arrest as Sunanda's death was declared unnatural. "It is the law of the land. If a wife is found dead in unnatural circumstances, a case has to be registered against the husband and arrest him," said K.K. Shailaja, AIDWA secretary.

BJP leader Subramanian Swamy tweeted: "In the wake of an inquiry into the possible murder of Sunanda P can T (Tharoor) be a minister". Ironically, this unexpected turn of events has come when Tharoor could have ensured Thiruvananthapuram as one of the few sure shot seats for the lacklustre United Democratic Front (UDF) in the next Lok Sabha polls.

(L) Shashi Tharoor at Sunanda's cremation taking her body to the funeral pyre.

For, though Tharoor could hardly claim to have delivered on most of the promises he made as a candidate in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, the Opposition LDF is hampered by its inability to find an opponent who could match his image. Tharoor has also overcome some of the major odds he faced last time, like his lack of fluency in Malayalam, internal opposition in Congress and the Muslim outfits' campaign that he was pro-Zionist.

But all these look minor in the backdrop of the present crisis. Unlike Tharoor's scintillating successes in his academic and professional career, he was dogged by repeated setbacks ever since he started his political career in 2009. After retiring from a 30-year diplomatic career at the United Nations, Tharoor entered politics as the Congress candidate from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of his home state Kerala in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

Sunanda Pushkar with Shahsi Tharoor during their wedding.

Although he won with an unexpectedly huge margin of more than 1 lakh votes and became a union Minister of State for External Affairs, he was constantly in the midst of controversies, mostly on account of his own "politically incorrect" and off-the-cuff remarks.

This included getting into a legal fix over his demand at a meeting in Kerala to sing the national anthem in an "American style", reference to the economy class in flights as "cattle class" and culminating in his losing his ministerial berth in connection with the controversy over the IPL tournament.

Tharoor was accused of trying to help Pushkar, then not his wife, but a Dubai-based businesswoman, allegedly make some big bucks from IPL through a new team, Kochi Tuskers. Though Tharoor lost his ministerial berth, the controversy led to him marrying Pushkar in the end. Conservative India sat stunned as Tharoor and Pushkar merrily entered wedlock. But after the marriage, Tharoor appeared chastised as he cautiously refrained from shooting his mouth and consequent controversies.

Until BJP leader Subramanian Swamy tweeted that a union minister used his clout to get his son released from a Dubai jail where he was languishing, accused in a drug abuse case. Though Swamy mentioned no names, Tharoor jumped into the fray, saying neither of his two sons (from his first marriage with Tilottama, a Bengali academic now in the US) nor Pushkar's only son faced any case or jail term.

But the worst was still lurking in the shadows. It broke out a few days ago when Pushkar tweeted that her husband was being stalked by Mehr Tarar, a Pakistani journalist who was sending him love messages.

This led to a tweet spat between the two women and Tharoor saying his Twitter account was hacked and also mentioning that Pushkar was ill. This was followed by Pushkar saying she would divorce Tharoor for having an extramarital affair. A day later Tharoor and Pushkar jointly denied any serious problem in their marital life.

However, everything once again went upside down with Pushkar found dead on January 17 evening inside the suite the couple had been staying at the Leela Palace Hotel in Delhi.

American Educational DC Crank Generator, 6-1/2" Length x 2-1/2" Width x 4-1/2" Height User Reviews

This is a skilled manufactured goods until the fake gears strip. This will pocket house surrounded by the initially 3 hours of aid. You'll initiation considering modest pieces of fake shaving off as the gear splines initiation spinning hostile to all additional. Seems be fond of they may maybe build it including metal gears to get on to it continue longer. Pro the price compensated, I infer this disposable mentality is the norm. I soothe washed-out cash on the item in the family road a clad working manufactured goods.
- L. Thornburg

I prearranged a dozen of these awe-inspiring little toys. They arrived on calculate and were just so what I looked-for and expected. I was competent to aid them to lecture the different between motors and generators as intended.
- Laurel Zhang

The gears are not only fake (not a bolt from the blue) but they are misaligned on some of these so thatthey jam and do not turn smoothly right out of the box.I am tiresome to give knowledge teachers with a "kit" of helpful demonstrations and I bought five of these. Hand cranked generators are very good culture devices, but, now that I need more, I am going to try some of the others on Amazon this time ... these, as others have said, are just not well ample made.
- Richard Sonnenfeld

I used it for less that 1 hour and the plastic gears stripy away leaving not anything save for a plastic circle. I was not happy about it and I cannot find gears that all fit its exact size.
- Kp

The cheap plastic gears broke in 3 minutes. I cranked it for a couple minutes and the plastic gears stripped in no time at all. Waste of money.
- iliketoreview

As a distinguished school science teacher I found these generators to perform very well. I needed a only just any extra for a class set, and these were much cheaper than the science give catalogues were charging. These generators are positively sturdy, and hopefully I can make a only just any years use made known of them. The trick is to make guaranteed you/students/whomever make your way through the crank at an even pace and not make random, jerking motions with the crank as the inside gears can strip and no longer work. (spending a only just any minutes showing students the correct way to use them and warning them what would happen if they didn't resulted in no broken generators!)I also like how these are reflect it over-through so with the intention of you can show students how a generator works. These provided enough power to light several lightbulbs in varying path set-ups.
- LewisL

The included wires are a splendid figure, and this works well for childish hands to learn about electricity. Do not crank the handle in sudden, hard bursts and it will last a while.
- Fred

For what we paid it was a good deal. It was hard to run and feels like its about to come apart in our hands.
- neezer

Akin harvest expense a lot extra. Take out 4 screws and apply vasoline to the gears or it will grab up with a few income of use.
- Randy Cogliser

It ruined 2 income before long. This was old in my 7th grade knowledge class and the kids thought it was actually neat but, the fun release lasted a day or two :(***Bring up to date***I flat exhaust it!A extremely modest bar connects the soubriquet to the gears and the gears stride to initiation the energy. The "extremely modest" bar chop off. I was fortunate enough to discover it and including a modest bit of manipulating I was competent to put it in trade into house. It facility be fond of it should! Only be austere!

Octomom Charged With Felony Welfare Fraud

EXCLUSIVE

Octomom has just been charged with 3 felony counts of welfare fraud and now faces more than 5 years in prison if convicted on all counts, TMZ has learned.

The L.A. County District Attorney's Office filed the charges, including 1 count of aid by misrepresentation, and 2 counts of perjury by false application for aid. The D.A. claims Octomom -- real name Nadya Suleman -- failed to report nearly $30,000 in earnings between January 1-June 30, 2013.

Octo is accused of failing to disclose income between January and June of 2013 -- specifically, money that she got from personal appearances and residuals from videos. TMZ knows ... the video in question is a masturbation video.

The D.A. is asking the judge to set bail at $25,000.

I love this ball but as I ordered it I was hoping it was made more as a rubber and as a replacement for it is a beach ball. We be inflicted including had it for one month and there is by now a fissure in it so it is always bringing up the rear air. It would be so much best if it were a different type of material used to get on to the ball. Extremely educational and extremely fun. My kids literally use it everyday.

Alabama adds to its recruiting arsenal with addition of Lane Kiffin

In new offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, Alabama is bringing on board one of the most successful recruiters college football has seen in the past decade.

Kiffin's recruiting prowess dates back to his days as an assistant coach under Pete Carroll at Southern Cal, where he was first hired as a tight ends coach at the age of 26. Kiffin quickly moved his way up the ladder at USC to wide receivers coach, then passing game coordinator and eventually offensive coordinator with the young assistant's skill and energy on the recruiting trail playing a huge role in his advancement on Carroll's staff.

The Trojans saw progress offensively under coordinator Norm Chow but both the USC offense and the Trojans' recruiting appeared to take big steps forward once Chow moved on and Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian were given command of the offense beginning with the 2005 season. Thanks to the on-field success of superstar recruits from the 2003 signing class, including Reggie Bush, Lendale White and Steve Smith, Kiffin and his fellow USC staffers embarked on a run that was not equaled by any program until Alabama's recent string of top-ranked recruiting classes.

USC landed the No. 1 recruiting class in the Rivals.com rankings for three consecutive seasons from 2004 until 2006, signing 16 prospects with five-star ratings from the service in that three-year span. Kiffin was instrumental in helping the Trojans through this unprecedented run of success, during which USC placed a premium on dominating their talent-rich home state.

After returning from the NFL, Kiffin returned to the college ranks in 2009 taking on the head coaching position at Tennessee. Kiffin's impact on the recruiting trail was immediate for what had become a stale and talent-starved program, with the Volunteers landing back-to-back top ten recruiting classes under Kiffin in 2009 and 2010. Those two classes included 24 prospects rated four stars or better by Rivals.com, including several players who served key roles for the Volunteers last season such as running back Rajion Neal and offensive linemen James Stone and Jawuan James.

After returning to USC to serve as head coach, Kiffin once again found immediate success recruiting on the West Coast, landing the No. 4 class in the nation in 2011. Once scholarship limitations were imposed due to NCAA sanctions against the Trojans, Kiffin's subsequent classes were significantly smaller but no less talent-rich. With just 15 total signees in his 2012 signing class, Kiffin managed to land the No. 8 class in the nation. With just 12 total signees in 2013, Kiffin still landed the No. 13 class in the nation, with five of USC's 12 signees rated as five-star prospects.

Kiffin gives the Crimson Tide another dangerous weapon on the recruiting trail with three crucial weeks to go before National Signing Day. Could the addition of Kiffin give Alabama an edge in landing some key offensive recruits in the final weeks of the 2014 cycle? Stay tuned to AL.com/recruiting for the latest developments.

Tila Tequila's Raunchy Tape to Be Released Tomorrow, Photos from Video Go ...

Tila Tequila's highly anticipated sex tape will be released next week and the photos of the raunchy video have already gone viral.

According to popular entertainment Web site Vivid, Tila Tequila's sex tape will be released sometime next week as opposed to the original release date which was on Christmas. The unpopular MTV star's hardcore adult movie is titled "Tila Tequila: Backdoored and Squirting."

TMZ even said that the video is not for those who have an appetite for soft porn. Apparently, there is a lot of guy on girl action in the movie. The website further claimed, "As for the video... there's not much of a plot. But it's got a happy ending..."

In the video, Tila plays her alter ego Ashley and is paired against a 32-year-old unknown male actor. Reportedly, the fans of the MTV star will get to see all her assets.

Last month, Tila caused uproar by wearing a Nazi Uniform in support of Hitler. She posted a photo of herself on Facebook wearing a swastika armband, the Nazi uniform hat and silver two-piece stripperesque outfit. Tila is even holding a pistol in the photo and is shot standing in front of Auschwitz.

Supporting her Nazi photo Tila wrote, "Hitler was a sweet and special kid". As reported by NY Daily News.com, "She even said that just like Hilter she was rejected and mocked at when she tried to convert to Judaism."

"I never said I hated anyone, but just because I feel sympathy, compassion, and forgiveness for others such as Hitler means I am now a monster? All for trying to open your eyes to the truth that Hitler was NOT as bad as he was painted out to be?"

Aside from making the news thanks to her sexual videos, Tila made headlines after claiming Paul Walker of the "Fast & the Furious" film franchise was a murder and not an accident. After all the controversies and a porn video, what else has Tila planned on her list. Her sex tape will be released tomorrow. Let us know your thoughts about it.

The Miniature Trebuchet Shopper Reviews

Great manufactured goods! Tuned mine to be consistently arresting a piece of copy paper at 15 feet. Had it for 4 years now, when the price was about half this much, but still a great machinate, and kit none the less!
- A Denis

My child and I loved it. The lob could maybe be a modest better primarily the lattice. The weight had to be glued inline (180 degrees) including the arm pro the toy to bring about.Hanging the weight at 90 degrees does not yield ample potential. If not, skilled era including my child.
- Moni

This toy should make the manufacturer proud. My 5-year-old son and I put it collectively in one morning (most of the time we were waiting for the glue to dry). It operates very smoothly, and we got long, straight, clean shots out of it from the beginning. I gave it 3 stars for durability because it wouldn't last five summary in the hands of my 2-year-old (it will last forever if treated sensibly.)I recommend that you spend a half hour rounding the corners of the pieces including sand-paper. Half a dozen small spring clamps (cheap) make the job much easier.Flush if the instructions are very apparent, I be inflicted including a few suggestions to improve them:1. When asked to cut the dowel into 3 pieces, don't do it yet.2. When gluing the third piece of the counterweight box to the other 2 pieces, use the whole dowel to align the holes in the counterweight pieces. When glue is dry and clamps are removed, cut the dowel for the counterweight to mass in place.2. Once the two trusses are glued, glue the braces (the ones including a triangle) to the trusses before gluing the trusses to the 3 bottom beams. (That's your single chance to clamp them using parallel faces.)3. When you glue the trusses to the 3 bottom beams, sharpen the leftover dowel including sand paper and thread it through the holes on the top of the trusses to align those holes. Once the glue is dry, cut the dowel to mass in place.4. Instead of gluing the bottom center beam right on the center of the trusses, move it forward one half creep so that you can clamp it.
- k35s114i096

I bought this as a reward for my 7 time old son who scored well on a test. It was an incredibly easy project, almost too easy. You only call for a knife (scissors will work), sandpaper, wood glue and about 30 pennies (for the counteract weight). We built it together relatively quickly, and it has withstood multiple play-dates. You can change the length of the rope to change the length and arc of your shot. It is a fun and practical physics lesson.
- Nicholas B Alexander

The disk must be generous ample such including the intention of it rotates bitter of the keep notch. If it is excessively tiny, it has to move quietly bitter of the keep notch and now and again the friction can be excessively greatly and fall it up, causing the sphere to be terrified in effect honest not effective. All the proceedings happens so at approximately calculate ago it's tricky to conspire made known now and again what is experience. Keep pro it is enjoyable as it facility.I old ancient pennies, ones owing to before to 1984. These weigh abstractedly extra than the extra pennies and is an straightforward road to get on to extra wieght pro the constant number.
- GREG A WARNER

This was bought for my husband, a woodworker by trade. He loved it and spent days putting it together in an exact way. He even got the kids involved. It was great fun. Now he desires to make a full scale develop.
- Toni Noble

THIS TOY IS FUN TO BUILD AND FUN TO OPERATE, AND IS A GREAT TEACHER'S HELP FOR MEDIEVAL HISTORY, BUT BE READY TO IMPROVE ON IT; THE DOWELS SENT WITH THE KIT DID NOT FIT, THEY WERE TO BIG (THE NEAREST HOBBY SHOP HAD THE PROPER SIZE FOR A FEW CENTS). AND THE WHOLE TREBUCHET ROCKS ALARMINGLY WHEN FIRED, REQUIRING EITHER THE ADDITION OF A LARGER AND HEAVIER BASE, OR SIMPLY A SET OF WHEELS (AS SEEN FOR INSTANCE ON THE PBS DOCUMENTARY ON MEDIEVAL SIEGE ENGINES). OVERALL ,STILL A FUN EXPERIENCE!!!
- Dennis Lachaud "avidreader"

Easy to assemble. A little modification looked-for to improve routine. Didn't be fond of the nylon mesh provided for sling, so I used my own clarification. Momentously improved space and accuracy. The cat likes it, too.
- Richard L Gray

Got this for a friend for his 30th birthday. I figured it was about time he had a medieval siege engine. Honestly this might be somewhat educational to a child, but it's really for adults. Was fun and reasonably easy to put together. The only fall up was tweaking the 'sling' length. You'll know when you get it aptly, suddenly your 2-3 foot shots will become 12-20 foot shots. It's well worth the time spent tweaking it.As a fun addendum, consider getting approximately "Spitballs" water gel balls. They expand to about 200x their size in water, and are EXACTLY the aptly size and weight to launch with this thing. Add to that their untreated bounciness and tendency to explode and there is much fun to be had.
- Justus

This is a great kit. I was a little skeptical as I saw the parts came in one board and that they had to be snipped out and sanded, but it wasnt a ton of work and was a great bonding encounter with my son (10 yrs old). We built the whole thing over 2 days, and it took about 6 hours from notch the wrap to firing projectiles around the house. We let it sit overnight for the glue to harden at that calculate finished the lob the 2nd day. It took us about 10 attempts to figure out how to get the pouch to work and to adjust the lob to fire correctly. Great manufactured goods, sturdy, learning, and plain old fun.
- B. Melgaard

The Miniature Trebuchet

The trebuchet was the essential weapons stick of the medieval cycle and ahead of schedule renaissance. A generous and unwieldy stick, it was typically built on-locate all owing to battle, and tuned to toss splendid weights - such as the carcasses of decomposing cattle and pots of burning pitch, over the castle walls and on its inhabitants.

This is our newest and nominal trebuchet top in a lingering outline of catapult kits. Designed by master trebuchet adept Ron Toms, this apparatus is essential pro the apprentice on a financial proclamation or as a great spectacle piece pro any desktop or bulge of any description enthusiast.

Precision impressed by notebook controlled machinery pro cast iron all fit and real joinery. The fussy directions contain loads of photos of all step of the construction administer, tuning tips and protection clarification.

Built-in in the kit are four wooden projectiles, all the de rigueur gears pro the lob, trigger, and counterweight container as water supply as all the parts pro the kit. The only business you'll call for to give are 64 pennies pro counterweight and a only only any unadorned tools - Nail clippers, a ruler, a helpfulness knife, wood glue and a only only any rubber bands to call the pieces collectively while the glue dries.
Tools required: Nail clippers, Glue, Ruler, rubber bands and a helpfulness knife. Rub down is optional.
Bonus Counterweight Required: 64 pennies. Array: In this vicinity 10 feet.

Magnetic Field Viewer Card (Pack of 1) Recent Reviews

I assume that awaited to the fake and thickness of the card, the thing cannot detect anything fleeting of a pretty passionate magnetic field. I have used magnetic field viewers before and they are much more insightful than this thing.

Bitter cold morning, but less cold later today

A cold morning for sure across New England, but Boston fails to go below zero again. The last time the city went negative was January 24th 2011 at -4 and that was significantly warmer than the record which still stands at -13F way back in 1882. That record is also the lowest January temperature ever recorded in Boston. You can see some of the readings this morning as the sun was rising in the image.

You can send me your thoughts on the cold and get my latest forecast on Twitter @growingwisdom.

A few years ago, the USDA revised the hardiness zones for plants across the country. Boston and other areas of the immediate coast were put into zone 7, which has a minimum temperature of zero. While just one anecdotal piece of data, it is interesting Massachusettss largest city rarely goes below zero anymore. Much of this is due to the heat island effect, where the materials of a city, like concrete, asphalt and the heat escaping from all the buildings keeps the warmer than the surrounding countryside.

As close as West Roxbury, temperatures were reported as cold at 6 below this morning. Norwood fell to a bone-chilling negative 16 and I recorded negative 6 briefly around 5 AM in Natick. Temperatures at this level can do some damage to the flower buds of certain trees and shrubs, but native plants will survive just fine. Those of us, who try growing plants outside our cold hardiness zone, might have some problems.

The cold relaxes this afternoon as sunshine and a southwesterly wind aid in moving the mercury to more tolerable levels. Overnight, will not be as cold and temperatures will start to go up after midnight or 1 AM.

You could see some sunshine tomorrow morning, but clouds will quickly fill into the sky. There could be a few showers during the day, but its mostly later Sunday night and the first part of Monday we see rain. When the rain starts, it could briefly freeze on some surfaces, still very cold from this arctic air.

As the rain ends Monday evening, bitter cold air rushes back into the area. Anything that is wet and slushy will flash freeze. Its going to stay cold through the middle of the week, so if you have slush and snow in your driveway, walkway or on the deck you want to remove, I suggest moving it before Monday evening. In terms of rain, we are only going to see around a half inch of rain, so flooding etc. isnt going to be an issue.

Some of you might be worried about rain on your roof with the snow. While I certainly cant know the status of every roof in the Commonwealth, the amount of snow on most roofs today is under a foot. A foot of heavy wet snow is well within the weight limit for most roofs. The images of a flat roof collapsing from previous winters make for great news pictures, but most of us dont live in those types of structures and few saw even a foot of snow in the recent storm. For those of you who did receive 2 feet of snow, you will obviously have to make your own judgment call based on your own home or business.

The deep cold returns for a couple of days with the trend turning more typical later in the week. After this next arctic blast we get somewhat of a break from the bitterest air. Temperatures in the 5 day period from the 10th to the 15th look closer to the kind of cold you expect here in January, not in Minnesota.

Indoor Flowers You Can Grow EasilyIndoor flowers are a great way to chase away some of those winter doldrums. Check out this week's video on these wonderful indoor bulbs known as amaryllis.
