American Educational Skeleton Model Reviews

American Educational Skeleton Model ReviewsHas each single visible bone on this modest model. Splendid for learners. Only bone missing is the hyoid, but can't beat the quality for 30$, And it does NOT look like a toy.
- Me

Product states "64 pieces of separable bones for the upper extremities" and "62 pieces of separable bones of lower extremities". None of these bones are separable and this is not an effective study aide for anyone studying the skeletal system.
- Aries

came actually fast, cant complain about with the intention of. a bit shaky wouldn't have it almost kids but it is kind hgj
- Jennifer VanHorn Stott

It is what it is. The stand may possibly be a modest more enhancing, but it's a kind small model of a skeleton.
- Jeff Hafner

Budget Life-Size Skull Purchaser Reviews

Don't guess this skull to look beautiful like the professional models, but for a quarter of the cost it is soothe true. I am using this develop to study in a pre-med biology class in society and it works fine. All of the small fine points bestow on real skulls are there, just a little rougher almost the edges, plus some of the holes are not punched all the way owing to. The mandible is comes off and surrounded by the skull has the same anatomical fine points you would guess. This is splendid to study with at home lacking paying over $100 for the professional quality models.
- S. Norris "Pre-med student"

The adage is "you get what you pay for", so if you want a skull model as good as the $90 models, don't get this. Even if if you do not feel like plopping a lot of money down, this is a great selection. Mine was clean, the jaw functioned by the book and it looks fine. At faster inspection the nasal septum and vomer are deviated and the piece that contains the medial and lateral pterygoid plates are overlapped a modest at the seams, but this is sweet minor. The deficiencies would not have hindered me when studying for anatomy or for reviewing previous to disection lab. The occlusion of the teeth is off, and the comes off teeth are O.K. (positively anatomically true) but they do not stay in the socket well. By and large, a good buy except you are used to effective with the actually nice models and are aggravated by the minor imperfections.
- Christopher D. Hart

My first depression in the lead considering the skull was including the intention of it was extremely shiny. This itself would be ok, even if the top of the skull did not fit on accurately. The proportions if not are assess even if. It does not be inflicted including splendid top, but is helpful for fast an appreciative of the important proportions of a skull for the admittance art apprentice. Those who aspire a in tears a modest extra fussy even if, would be better of paying a pit extra for a nicer develop.
- I. C. Learote "Counterlines"

I'm a medical student. Let me precede my review including an explanation of why I purchased this skeleton, and what I had in mind when doing so.I wanted:A) a touch cheapB) an accurate representation of the skullC) I wasn't looking for a ton of details, or perfection. I wanted a touch to hold in my hand while I read through my anatomy text and/or atlas, to help myself get 3D oriented. In all these aspects, this model is perfect and I couldn't be happier. A lot of nuanced details are missing (e.g. no separation btwn nasal conchae, no visible separation btwn sphenoid and ethmoid, no obvious vomer, no obvious separation btwn median and lateral pterygoid plates, etc). However, all 8 cranial foramen are prevalent (some more so than others, and some are just generous indentations and not in fact foramen). Also, one of the hinges holding the cranium onto the facial skeleton ruined. However, the pegs that hold them together are stong enough, and I really dont even see a need for these hinges...so whatever :) Also, the mandible is on there good. Kinda wish it could be removed without unscrewing the anchor for the spring (to get a perfect inferior view), but it is easily moved out of the way, so that's ok.In summary, if you're looking for a touch cheap and accurate to get yourself 3D oriented, buy this. If you want a perfect, extremely detailed representation, I think you're going to just have to shell out $90+ for the legit ones.
- R. Lavoie

I'm a 1st time health check apprentice and I bought this skull to examine early family. It's sweet skilled pro the fee...most others are ended $100. It is, even if, not perfectly real - pro persons attracted, here are no mandibular foramen, a poorly matured pterygopalatine fossa, extremely fleeting styloid processes, and approximately of the additional foramen boost extra as indents extremely than full holes (carotid canals, optic canals). It is caring pro tracing nerve pathways as lingering as you can get on to ended the detail including the intention of approximately of the foramen aren't actually foramen. I would urge this to examine anatomy at family at a evenhanded fee as lingering as you be inflicted including lobby to better examine equipment to get on to a extra real check over of the skull.
- Bertman88

I bought this skull in hopes of using it for involved depiction, but the seams between the fake were so poorly aligned that I had to restore it. Many of the pieces waggle almost and don't sit closely. You may also need to trim some surplus fake off from the molding administer, as the one I recieved did not look very clean-- above all between the teeth. I find the comes off teeth grating just since they don't stay in very well, but they are by the book twisted and would be great for revelation. I don't mean to just bash the manufactured goods even if; this skull would be great for a classroom where one was tiresome to give broadcast the depression of what a skull is, how it functions and the number surrounded by the skull.
- A. Jacobson "Sketch Artist"

I purchased this skull to help me study for my Anatomy & Physiology class because I was finding it difficult to envision the structure without a 3D model. It was surpass feature than I thought it was going to be and quite heavy. It has 3 removable teeth and the mandible has springs on it so it can move up and not effective. I found it to be anatomically correct and a great study guide (I aced my exam in case you were wondering!)
- R. Freeman

splendid for examine purposes for classes such as anatomy. Has every part of the skull to know.
- Megan Caraway "megan"

you could spend $100+ and get a best skull, but why bother? I'm using it for modify level anatomy and it serves its function well.
- heather123 "heather"

I am a physician, and this is as acurate as anything I used in school. I purchased this as a gag gift, but I will keep it after considering the feature.
- Tim

Pathfinders Medieval Catapult Wooden Kit Reviews

Extremely easy to assemble and enjoyable. It shoots equipment extremely far. We bought three types of tabletop catapults and this was by far the most excellent.
- Heather

This is a fairly good little gadget. The long term durability is low, andnot a ton of educational regard. recommed larger kits for kids education.still fun for personnel battles.
- A. Richards

My son had a great time putting this together and now playing with it. Received it in a timely fashion and as expected.
- P. Burdick

Bought this for my son and two of his friends to use in a Science Fair. They had no trouble putting it together themselves. And, they got an "A" on the project.
- Kelly Johnson

Regular with what many other reviewers have said, this is a well-made kit. All the parts fit collectively nicely, it's fun to build, the twisted thread is true to the old rope mechanisms, and the refined manufactured goods has a very good advent. It's fun to sand the parts smooth, which makes the advent even better. I was impressed. Once my son and I ongoing to play with it, a real flaw emerged. The temptation to wind the thread up pretty forceful, to get more space, is natural. The horizontal bar that acts as the stop, when you do this, cannot take the impact, and fractures with a few shots. Well, we took a crumb cut of wood aprox the same width and secured it to the back side as fortification. That one horrified, too. Third have a crack -- replacing that with an even wider brace made of masonite, did the ploy. The kit must come with a crossbar that is stout enough to take the impact that the wind-up mechanism is capable of delivering, and in that mind the contemporary top doesn't do the job. If you improvise a modification, it is an exceptional modest catapult!
- J. Bartholomew

I have two sons who are extremely interested in knights and castles, as well as the linked weaponry. They wanted to get on to their father a catapult for his birthday. They worked together on the assembly and then enjoyed using their creation to launch Play-Doh balls across the kitchen. It works! You can really get on to some distance with this little contraption. As you might imagine, they decided dad needed a trebuchet for Christmas.
- Picky Mom

Used this for a knowledge machinate and was extremely fortunate including the consequences. It is a enjoyable toy to launch stuff including. Be inflicted including enjoyable if you approve of this.
- Carolyn K. Cayford

I bought this as a project to impart including my 10 year old son. We put it together in less than half an hour (other than some time to let the glue dry). He had a blast, learned a lot, and was thrilled including the whole process. The kit was extremely easy to assemble.
- Keith Lowe "Keith Lowe"

It is a force, it fires tiny material across the room. Equipment like mini marhmallows, dog food, and marbles work well. The trigger slips and does not hold down the arm, but may maybe doubtless straightforwardly be flat. If your idea the fee seems kinda high, well it is, but you by now know that. It is well-built and looks good.
- bill

My grandson looked-for to build a force for Social Studies class in six days. No additional instructions or directions were given. Thank goodness for Amazon! The kit was shipped and he had it built including a day to spare and he got an A for the scheme. This is a splendid force kit; extremely water supply constructed including kind wood that stained beautifully.
- P. ODELL

Pathfinders Medieval Catapult Wooden Kit

Human Body Skeleton Model 24" Buyer Reviews

Human Body Skeleton Model 24" Buyer ReviewsI bought this skeleton for a foundational kinesiology class that requires a fake skeleton, which we merely need to affect in origins and attachments of uncommon muscle groups. This skeleton was not used for a toy and only use for the 3 assignments I needed to hand in.So basically the treatment was LIGHT.I needed primarily to transport the contrivance back and into the planet to lecture to submit the machinate and as mentioned higher than affect this in.The base comes off the unit, and is very unstable, unless you use duck tape. Both arms came off, the head popped off, the wire attachments to hold on the appendages came off one by one, and so my last submission was a skeleton, with NO head, no arms and 2 legs.I had to rewire one of them on and then the other arm, I had to tuck into the hole in the hip socket! The last 2 submissions to the professor, were exceptionally awkward, as my skeleton was the only one that was damaged in the administer. I did get an A for the class, but I can't use this skeleton over again. It did not even last for 3 months!!! Sad, American made would probably have been a best move!In view of the fact that the manufactured goods was purchased in September, no refund for me! Alas, I'll stick with the lecture bookstore in the future!Don't disturb, it won't didn't even last 3 months!!!By the way, the university bookstore carries Mr. Thrifty. No one who purchased EITHER size, had the issues I had with faulty manufacturing. They all can use theirs over again!
- Thubten Droling

It took me a minute to identify just what bothers me about this skeleton, but here it is: the ribs don't angle not working from posterior to anterior. As a consequence he looks be fond of he's ceaselessly land in a huge, exaggerated breath and his clavicles are up below his chin. Also loads of of the bones do not move in anatomically correct ways because of the way the joints are put together. So not the best for appreciative establishment function or additional relationships between bones or landmarks as needed for radiographic positioning. On the additional hand, all the bones and landmarks are represented. It's perfect for examining the bones in isolation. This skeleton is also numbered and came with a sheet to help the student learn the names of the bones. So the underside line is, if you are looking for an anatomic develop this is the guy for you. If you need to study the physiology or interrelationships within the skeleton you may need something else - but you will certainly pay more. This is a compromise between deprivation and accuracy.I have submitted approximately images that will hopefully grant more detail than the amazon photo. I included the cat for size comparison - I reflect this skeleton is the perfect size, he wasn't as big as I thought he'd be based on the measurements.

Halloween Budget Life-Size Human Skull - Fourth Quality (Item # CS204) Purchaser Reviews

I expected this skull yesterday, in tension that I may maybe aid it pro an full of go Halloween brace. The mouth is relentlessly distorted! I noticed that between the calculate I approved it and the calculate I expected it, the depiction had altered. The depiction shown currently has a slightly misshaped mouth - pocket the underneath of the mouth and step it to the gone in this vicinity 1/2" extra and that's what I expected. The skull cap has generous (1/8") gaps and I've not tried to interfere it off (doesn't recommend itself off so far away including a noteworthy tug). This is a cut-rate amount of than a 4th feature skull - the business must be inflicted including been melted not working and re-cast. Sending in trade now.
- Rowland

I was in the family way broken pieces, missing teeth, and such. The only thing wrong is there is no paint on the scull cap portion. I can remedy that part of it. Otherwise, it is in extremely good condition for 4th feature product.
- Pixie Power! "... flitting around here and ...

I was very skeptical of this, but I figured for eight bucks, I'd order four of them and at the most terrible get two usable pieces out of it. What I received was near perfect to me. Slightly discolored, but nothing a quick spray won't fix. I'm not a doctor or anything, just using them for halloween props, but these are quality pieces. Surprisingly gray, hard plastic, and including perfect details. Removable skull cap and bicuspid, molar, and incisor - they flush include a bag of extra teeth. So - if you're looking to use them for scary decorations, or to make skilled castings, these are perfect! Cheaper than the foam ones at the party pile, flush.
- tww

If you are looking for a good quality but economically feasible skull for an art machinate or Halloween, look no additional. This resin skull is definitely both Fiscal proclamation and Fourth Quality, but is far above the quality of no matter what business you will find in stores. Top of seams, graduation of bones, teeth, even areas of muscle attachment are represented positively well, and the clarification used to make it is incredibly lasting. The only gripe I have is the hinges and the dying tie being following-rate quality, but then over again you get what you pay for. Replacing the hinges and tie with a in tears better shouldn't be a problem.By and large, this is a steal.
- bebopsamurai

It is what it is...4th feature. Skull doesn't match up (substantial lower-level gap from brow to top half of skull (1/4"). The hooks to hold skull on are a waste of time since they too don't match up. The skull it self is .....ok. I sought after to use it to cast molds from, but it look is like I will have to do some extra work to charming out some mismatched areas. I think I would have spent a few extra buck to get a privileged feature skull. I suppose for instructional use it would be fine!
- Zac A. Bakke

I love Halloween and have been export foam skulls for decorating. I ran in a roundabout way these and planning I would take a chance and approved 3 of them. Splendid Buy! If your lacking them for culture machinate them you may want to go up in feature, the cut skull is not absolutely lined up and the latches are super low-cost. If your by these as a prop it will be the best cash you dissipate!
- W. Pryor

Fee was good but skull is way out of alinement very approximate, must of been a Friday day manufactured goods. For what I'm responsibility will work fine , duyer beware on this one.
- 2PIRATE

I pray that my doctor did not use this skull in anatomy education at health check lecture. It is ill decent (top and underneath jaw) and appeared to be unglued. I don't retract this advertised as a 3 cut (plus consumable teeth), but that is how it at home. Even if, in view of the fact that I am not studying anatomy, it will with a modest adornment and some glue, give my purpose. I would say it was value the $18 but not $18.01.
- K. Dressel

Numerous teeth can be indifferent and skull cap can be indifferent .... Exact for a halloween decoration without breaking the bank
- Jason Sadler

I expected this item in pieces. It was packed in a box and then surrounded by an Amazon box. The interior box was open. half the eyes socket and nose were broken off, teeth were gone from the skull, and the springs that hold the jaw on were broken. I know it is a fourth feature skull and a modest glue will fix it aptly up, but you would estimate that an item at this fee would be in best affect up. I fell like I bought a used item.
- Charles Gagliano

American Educational 6 Piece Glass Lens Set Purchaser Reviews

I use these lenses when I do a revelation of optics. They may not be the best feature but work for me.
    - Gearold P. Vanroekel

Bought for an optics class machinate but the telescope top essential less important diameter lenses for the eyepiece which sadly were not section of the set.
    - LyndaB

fast benefit, good stuff i bought it for my kid's culture conduct experiment ,they love to use it.fun for them those conduct experiment.
    - erdenebileg tse

OK Manufactured goods, Manufactured goods quality is despondent-cost not what i probable, you get on to 6 piece can be helpful release to reflect it over uncommon rank of lens, normal was not including the intention of great.
    - DK

My son wanted to build a telescope at home so I ordered these lenses. The deal and price point were the reasons I went for it. There were 6 different type of lenses with the hold and this gives me an chance to do a few more optic projects at home and a hope it sparks an appeal for my son.The product was delivered on time and came packed in bubble wrap and packaging so that was good. 2 of the 6 lenses were smashed at the outer edges. Not a whole lot but enough to notice and feel (few nicks on each lens).I haven't used them yet so with a bit of luck they work. Lens is clear and no blemish. The product didn't come with instructions on what type of lens is which, it's focal part or any other specs. Maybe a few examples or machinate ideas would be good to contain that keeps the appeal going. But I don't know the companionship has a separate hold for a machinate book.Overall I'm excited to work with my 8 yr old on this machinate and hope we make it.
    - Tej Luthra

These lenses are not the best quality. They do bring about best than chunks of ice or glass shards to exhibit the optical properties of vitreous material. Not a ringing endorsement, but there it is.

Mr. Thrifty Budget Skeleton Model 33 1/2 in High for Classroom Use Recent Reviews

Mr. Thrifty Budget Skeleton Model 33 1/2 in High for Classroom Use Recent ReviewsThis model is useful for the big picture, but it lacks a lot of detail. I bought this model over the smaller edition hoping that it would have more detail to it. The box says that it's splendid for future doctors or nursing students, but it's far too simplistic for a college anatomy course. Many of the bony landmarks are not shown or are shown incorrectly. Also, the skeleton's screw takes up a good portion of the skull. So, even even if the calvaria is removable, you can vaguely make out the sphenoid bone inside, and that's it.The quality is just ok. For model, it says that the mandible is removable, but I couldn't get mine to come off, and there are no in rank. My Mr. Thrifty also came with his initially floating rib bent up, and he sits lop-sided on the stand.
    - k8inut

As a medical practitioner with a post-qualified degree, I wish I would have had this during my program and even during basic high school/college A&P. It is a great tool and is large enough to find take note to almost all of the bony landmarks. It's great for kids and already have our kindergartener capable to identify all of the bones (save the carpals/tarsals). I would buy this product 10x out of 10 especially for the price.
    - Texas

The skeleton is not "jointed" at the corrupt of the skull; here is no movability of the skull on the cervical spine. Also, the discs are not publicized well; through of the same clarification as the spine. I don't feel it shows a skilled representation of the discs, in check over of the fact with the intention of of this.
    - Andrew D. Cooper

I purchased this cut for my 6 year old grandson who is extremely attracted in all skeletons, creature and animals. He was detective novel! His care for is taking anatomy education for her top in naturopathic medicine and this is what they have in the classroom, so observably this will serve my grandson for loads of being to suggest itself.
    - frequent shopper 60

It served it's function! Planning it would be more fussy. Joints not easily moveable. Would urge it if you just want to get a visual as to how the bones are emotionally involved.
    - Ingrid O'Donnell

I bought this skeleton pro a Halloween sight. (It is inane to be the shorts-in outcome of a sun-dip female skeleton.) As such, I was in tension pro a mock-up of a outcome's skeleton. As a substitution for, what I've expected appears to be a microscopic adult skeleton: The skull is excessively tiny. A outcome of 33 1/2" would be inflicted including a abstractedly better skull. I've unbendable including the intention of this is a insignificant top and will aid the model anyway, save pro I would be inflicted including been happier including a more "life-be fond of" mock-up.
    - Robert K. Griggs

This skeleton is cheaply owing to, full of anatomical errors, and not value the cash if you are at all honest in this vicinity by it pro any rank of anatomy bring about/studying. The manufacturer false a carpal bone, they screwed the aptly arm in backwards, and here are bags of additional grating fair points (extra be fond of be deficient in thereof.) I particularly emailed the companionship promotion this to ask for whether it had such fair points as the deltoid or gluteal tuberosities, which they claimed it did, keep pro it does not in check over of the fact including the intention of here is a giant SEAM in succession not effective the full part of each lingering bone. Pitsco Laser-Cut Basswood Torsion Ballista Kit (Individual Pack) Customer Reviews

This is extremely indigent feature. I returned the lone I bought ( it ruined all through shipping ).I would be inflicted including returned it either road. It is extremely small and not well-built sufficient to sit down on a desk yield a bigwig their cards no matter what thing extra than a hardly any inches.Appealing concept, only poorly executed.
    - Marc Mest

Assembled, this model ballista is smaller than I thought it would be when purchased online. The feature of the model is excellent. The precision cuts are spot on and the lessons sheet and labeling of the parts excellent as well. You will need a small phillips screw driver, nail clippers and wood glue, although I was capable to decline the need for the small screw driver. I recommend a good wood glue with a little effective time. No sanding required. I'd recommend this as a good model for a beginner to tackle based upon the clear lessons sheet, well-manifest pieces and well-rub point.
    - Banzai

When I initially saw it, I nearly panicked. It looked like I was inane to have to carve all the pieces out.It is simply that it is cut that very precisely out of the wood. You can't even see the lines until you are pushing out the pieces. It isn't easy to figure it out, and assemble it, but I liked that about it. It would not have been any fun if it hadn't been a challenge. And it works.
    - P. Boynton "Middle School teacher"

I am not above all skilled including small tools. I am securely of the teach of mechanics including the intention of says never force it, only aid a bigger hammer. Including the warnings at this calculate in other reviews, I treated this extremely carefully. I worked at a snail's pace and carefully, tiresome to be gentle. The directions could maybe be inflicted including been better, keep for I did conspire it made known including austere looking and comparing including the depiction. Including this discretion and awareness including the intention of the wooden parts are not extremely passionate in family member to the doable torsion stresses, IT WORKS!
    - A Reader "snailgate"

We purchased this for our sons who need the challenge of construction the kit and by their surrounded by sell a in tears to someone skills instead of before a live audience record sports assembly. THe manufactured goods facility well but too much torsion will produce the item to break or bend to the top everywhere if becomes dysfunctional. Recommend for boys over again to get away from the TV sets and construct a in tears.
    - Chadwick

My niece and I assembled this kit. She is four. A child of four would not be able to finish it lonely but a kid of age 7 must be able to. This example of Torsion is not obvious to grasp but just a couple more examples would be all that is looked-for to set the idea into a kids mind. No pieces were missing and there were no extra pieces so don't lose anything. The resulting develop is not value the cost of this kit but the experience of building it with a child does make it value the price. It is assembled with glue and the glue is looked-for so disassembly and building again is not an option.
    - R. M.

This is a nice modest kit that produces a fun modest Ballista. It turns out positively well-built and it shoots well. The only thing wrong with this is that you'll instantly grasp you must have bought two of them since you'll want the get a battle collectively.

The eggs are easy to commence and numbered so they stopover in diplomacy. The chick may possibly be extra realistic save pro by at that time the genuine chicks are hatching and those are by far extra interesting
    - Busy on the go mom of 3

I gave it an "it's okay" rating because I was below the delusion that the modest chicks surrounded by the eggs were moulded fake, as Baby chicken 21 was a complete lift-out.In fact the other 20 were just document facts on a plain surface. As an culture al tool they are reasonably good.
    - Ross

Even if this product looks cool and has some educational value, I was a modest disappointed with the quality of this toy given the price I paid for it. I bought it for $29-a touch. What you get for this price are 21 fake eggs with stickers showing chick development on them. We played with the toy for about 20 synopsis and the "illustrations" are by now showing signs of wear. The fake tray is that super poor fake that sometimes separates yield in boxes of yield. This is sitting in a cardboard box. I doubt it will last long. I will see how long it lasts and will bring up to date later! I think the companionship must provide extra "substitution" stickers in the box in case the ones on the eggs get smashed additional than renovate. The try booklet describes how eggs form and show the parts of the egg but I planning it also must have built-in a description of major developmental milestones to go along with the cinema (like which day fastidious organs are urban, when feathers start to be converted into visible on the kernel etc.).
    - AudS

This is a splendid visual for students to more concretely understand the development of a baby chicken surrounded by an egg. The construction of them is splendid -- they do not open up so easily that they 'fall apart' -- more appropriate for an adult to open and share. Definitely a splendid instructional aid for any classroom or culture environment hatching eggs!

'Once Upon a Time in Wonderland'

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland: 8 p.m. Thursday on ABC.

The challenge of creating a successful spinoff is to give the new show its own identity while still reminding viewers of how much they love the older show.

"Once Upon a Time in Wonderland," premiering Thursday on ABC, does that quite well, suggesting it might even be better than the Sunday hit, "Once Upon a Time." The show was created by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, who created the original show, and Zack Estrin ("The River").

As the name suggests, "Wonderland" uses Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" as its story base, but then throws in other elements, including Jafar from "Aladdin" (ABC is a Disney company, after all) and a handsome genie named Cyrus who wins Alice's heart. Yes, she's a little girl at first, but that was on her first visit to Wonderland, before it was cursed.

The next time we see her, she's a pretty teenager who has returned to Wonderland to prove to her skeptical father that she was telling the truth about the hookah-smoking caterpillar and the Cheshire cat. That's when she falls for the genie, after taking refuge in his bottle when being chased by the Red Queen's guards.

The pilot is often thrilling, thanks to the appeal of Sophie Lowe ("Beautiful Kate") as Alice, Peter Gadiot ("The Forbidden Girl") as the bottled hottie and especially Michael Socha ("This Is England") as the Knave of Hearts, who rescues Alice just before she's about to be lobotomized by her father's doctors and takes her back to Wonderland so she can find Cyrus again.

Oh, yes, there is a White Rabbit, of course: a grizzled little computerized creature voiced by John Lithgow ("Third Rock From the Sun").

Naveen Andrews ("Lost") plays Jafar well enough to suggest the character can have a place in the hybridized plot, but then there's the Red Queen. There are two problems with her: The less obvious is that the character is just a blond version of the Regina Mills/Evil Queen character played by Lana Parrilla on the original "Once." The second problem is that Emma Rigby ("Prisoners' Wives") is flat-out awful in the role. Her line delivery completely lacks either conviction or credibility. Worse, there's not the slightest hint of credible villainy in her performance, just an annoying whine of petulance.

The plot is a little overstuffed, but the special effects, crisp direction and high-octane performances keep us interested enough to follow Alice down the rabbit hole.

Godspeed: Mercury astronaut Scott Carpenter dies at age 88

    Cosmic Log

Alan Boyle, Science Editor NBC News

    Oct. 10, 2013 at 4:05 PM ET

NASA pioneer astronaut Scott Carpenter died Thursday at the age of 88 due to medical complications from a recent stroke, leaving John Glenn as the last living member of the Mercury 7.

Carpenter had been hospitalized after suffering a stroke last month at his home in Vail, Colo. Word of his death at a Denver hospice came from family friends and was confirmed by his wife, Patty Barrett.

NASA Administrator Charles Bolden paid tribute to Carpenter in astatement: "As one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, he was in the first vanguard of our space program the pioneers who set the tone for our nation's pioneering efforts beyond Earth and accomplished so much for our nation."

Second American in orbitCarpenter was born on May 1, 1925, in Boulder, Colo., the son of research chemist M. Scott Carpenter and Florence Kelso Noxon Carpenter. He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy in 1949 and designated a naval aviator in 1951. Carpenter flew a variety of missions during the Korean War, became a test pilot and was selected as one of the Mercury 7 in 1959.

He had a special connection with John Glenn, a retired senator and astronaut who is still in good health at the age of 92. It was Carpenter who served as the backup for the Friendship 7 mission on Feb. 20, 1962, which made Glenn the first American in Earth orbit. And it was Carpenter who radioed, "Godspeed, John Glenn," from NASA's Cape Canaveral blockhouse as his colleague headed for history.

Carpenter became the second American in orbit on May 24, 1962, when he piloted his Aurora 7 capsule through three orbits. During that flight, he became the first American to eat solid food in space (in the form of energy snacks called"Space Food Sticks").

"When he went into orbit, instead of just worrying about being a test pilot, he was trying to analyze everything that was happening up there," said Jay Barbree, NBC News' Cape Canaveral correspondent. "That's why I call him the first scientist-astronaut."

One of Carpenter's discoveries pointed to the source of the mysterious "fireflies" that Glenn saw shining outside his window during the Friendship 7 flight. Carpenter thumped the side of his spacecraft and found that he could shake more of the sparkling specks loose from the capsule. "Scott discovered they were actually the moisture from the astronaut's body, which was released and dissipated outside into the cold," Barbree said.

Carpenter's splashdown generated some controversy because he overshot the designated landing zone, and it took 40 minutes for the recovery team to spot him in his life raft. Flight director Chris Kraft later complained that Carpenter used too much fuel during the flight, but Barbree said an investigation traced the fuel loss to equipment malfunction.

Aurora 7 was Carpenter's only spaceflight: He was removed from flight status after breaking his arm in a motorcycle accident in 1964, and left NASA in 1967.

Proud to be an aquanautIn addition to his astronaut experience, the former naval aviator participated in the Navy'sSeaLab underwater training programas an aquanaut. "He was just as proud of being an aquanaut as being an astronaut," Barbree recalled.

After his retirement from the Navy in 1969, Carpenter took on a number of business ventures and served as a movie consultant in the fields of spaceflight, oceanography and the environment. He wrote two novels as well as an autobiography,"For Spacious Skies: The Uncommon Journey of a Mercury Astronaut,"which was co-written with his daughter Kris Carpenter Stoever.

    Larry Downing / Reuters file

Former astronaut Scott Carpenter stretches a hand behind his head to greet senator-astronaut John Glenn at a 40th-anniversary celebration of the Apollo 11 moon mission on Capitol Hill in Washington in 2009. At right is Carpenter's wife, Patty Carpenter. Scott Carpenter, who orbited Earth in 1962, died on Thursday in a Denver hospice center at age 88 of complications from a stroke, his wife said.

When Glenn returned to orbit aboard the space shuttle Discovery in 1998, Carpenter said the space missions that he and his Mercury crewmates flew were part of a decades-long effort that would ultimately send humans to Mars and beyond. "All these flights will one day lead to manned exploration of other worlds outside our own solar system," Carpenter said in an essay written for NBC News. "That will not be soon. But it is inevitable."

Estes Model Rocket Igniters (Pack of 6) Shopper Reviews

These work with no problem. I have used these many times and have never had a misfire. High quality and they do the job.
    - Will Kalif "StormTheCastle"

This is the motor for the rocket, so it is no durable at all, you can only use it once.
    - Jorge Ianiszewski Rojas "Jorge Iani"

Good quality product, though Estes is already known for good quality model rockets and accessories. I've always had good luck with these. If you're getting any of the model rocket kits you may want to get these at the same time along with a Estes 302267 18" Parachute or Estes 302264 12" Parachute depending on your rocket.
    - E. Kennedy

Not much to say about rocket igniters. Hook up the wires, push the button, WOOSH! the rocket takes off! These were good quality and worked 100% of all trials.
    - Frank J. Taylor

Igniters functioned as promised. Rocket went off into the "Wild Blue Yonder" Great Fun was had by all. Of course igniters are not reuseable so that is the reason for the durable rating, but they functioned well.
    - William Stanley

American Educational 15 Piece Specimen Metamorphic Rock Collection Buyer Reviews

My son asked for "rocks" for Christmas and could not have been happier. The specimens are all nicely sized and the packaging was perfect. All the rocks are number labeled and coordinate with a list that groups within type of rock.

Bought this for my grandson for his birthday. He is an avid rock collector and seemed to really like this set.

Heart Classroom Budget Model JUMBO 4X Life Size Recent Reviews

Piece of Junk.Big, Poor quality, Not accurate, Ugly looking.I have inexpensive smaller models and even the expensive danny smith models that i use to teach but this one is pure garbage.
    - Tharuthalai Aasami "aasami"

My boyfriend is a high school biology teacher. I teach English in the same school system. We met on the job and quickly fell head over heels for each other. We enjoy getting each other gifts related to our fields. So when I started thinking about Valentine's Day, I knew instantly that I wanted to get him an anatomical heart model of some kind! Having never looked into this type of product, I had no idea what to expect as far as price and quality. If you consider this heart, be sure to look at the size information. I was floored at how big this model is! I added a photo of myself with Herbert (we named it Herbert the Heart) up at the top of the page so you can judge for yourself. This is a LOT of heart. The product description says it "includes sturdy and attractive display stand," which turns out to be a black molded plastic dish-type nest-looking stand that Herbert nestles into. I think this is a much better design than other anatomical models I have seen. Many balance on a narrow little stand that could easily fall over. You don't want to hurt your heart.Herbert comes apart into three sections. His parts fit together snugly. I wouldn't throw him around much, but it seems like a very good design that will last for years in the classroom. One disappointment: the "detailed educational key card" was not included in my shipment. It was a lot of fun to watch him unwrap this gift! He was impressed with my topical creativity and my thoughtfulness, as well as Herbert's immense size and quality. If you're looking for a beautiful, sturdy heart at a price that won't hurt yours, this model is a real winner.

Pitsco Structure Testing Instrument Kit User Review

I work with youth for an outreach organization that does extracurricular math and science. The organization has a bridge building competition and I was very excited about purchasing this item for that competition. The price for this machine is significant, and unfortunately not warranted. The issue for me was a bad connection between the force sensor and the readout. The readout, from initial plugin, reads, "Over the limit." It is possible to get the machine to work, but for the price it seems a ridiculous requirement. The machine is useless without a working connection. For me it was a giant waste of money.

    Pitsco Structure Testing Instrument Kit

The Pitsco 36730 Structure Testing Instrument Kit applies pressure to model structures such as bridges or towers to test the structure's load capacity and is for use by students in grades 6-12 studying the scientific concepts of engineering, structural forces, and geometry. Its acrylic turn-force wheel applies pressure in small increments up to 800 pounds of force to model structures, allowing students to stop applying pressure at the first sign of structural damage. The instrument includes a digital display for showing the load reading and accessories, such as load plates and blocks, a tower shield, and structure supports for testing a variety of structures. The base is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) for stability and durability, and the posts and instrument frame are made of lightweight aluminum, which resists corrosion and tarnishing.

The included software captures the peak and current load and graphs the force versus time per structure, and it is compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. The instrument reinforces science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts as students test the load capacity of model structures. It measures approximately 8 x 23 x 8.5 inches (H x W x D) without accessories. (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) It comes with an acrylic tower shield, wood roadbed load blocks, aluminum span columns, aluminum structure supports, steel span locking pins, steel threaded rods, a steel tower load plate, a power supply, software, and a USB cable. A structure testing instrument is typically used in an educational setting to test the load capacity of model structures.

Julio Jones likely to miss rest of NFL season because of foot injury; will ... - The Birmingham News

Atlanta coach Mike Smith is expected to address reports that former Foley High School football star Julio Jones suffered a season-ending foot injury during the Falcons' game on Monday night when he holds a press conference at 1:30 p.m. CDT Tuesday.

Jones, who starred collegiately at Alabama, missed by 1 yard recording his fourth consecutive game with at least 100 receiving yards in the 30-28 loss to the New York Jets on Monday night.

Jones finished with eight catches for 99 yards to give him 41 receptions for 580 yards in 2013. He leads the NFL in receptions and is second in receiving yards to New Orleans tight end Jimmy Graham this season. That's even though he's been limited in practice and listed as questionable on the Falcons' injury report for the past four weeks with a knee issue.

Jay Glazer of FOX Sports and the Atlanta Journal Constitution were among the outlets reporting Jones' foot injury without offering specifics.

The loss on Monday night dropped the Falcons to 1-4 after they played in the NFC championship game last season.

Velociraptor Claw (Teaching Quality Recreation) User Reviews

I used this for a necklace I created for my Jurrasic Park Ranger outfit. Nice! Durable and very convincing. Just remember the true size of Raptors are much smaller than the ones in the movie. This one is true to size.
    - Reefer77

One of my grandsons wanted this claw, the other wanted the T-Rex Dinosaur Tooth. They think that this claw is really great. They know that a real claw is very rare and fragile. The quality of this is very nice. It is durable, but not a tool to carve wood, it's a teaching instrument, for learning about Raptors. Very well made, great detail. The boys love it.
    - Terlbear

When I hold this thing I'm afraid a velociraptor is right behind me. It looks great, but be careful with it as the resin is softer than an actual velociraptor claw. It's brittle, I tried carving wood with it and it crumbled a little bit.

Velociraptor Claw (Teaching Quality Recreation) Detail View

    Velociraptor Claw (Teaching Quality Recreation)

Velociraptor (Actual Size) - Velociraptor is a genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that existed approximately 75 to 71 mya (million years ago) during the later part of the Cretaceous Period. Only two species are currently recognized, although others have been assigned in the past. The type species is V. mongoliensis; fossils of this species have been discovered in both Inner and Outer Mongolia in central Asia. A second species, V. osmolskae, was named in 2008 for skull material from Inner Mongolia. Smaller than other dromaeosaurids like Deinonychus and Achillobator, the turkey-sized Velociraptor nevertheless shared many of the same anatomical features. It was a bipedal, feathered carnivore with a long, stiffened tail and an enlarged sickle-shaped claw on each hindfoot, which is thought to have been used to kill its prey. Velociraptor can be distinguished from other dromaeosaurids by its long and low skull, with an upturned snout. Velociraptor (commonly shortened to 'raptor') is one of the dinosaur genera most familiar to the general public due to its prominent role in the Jurassic Park motion picture series. In the films it was shown with anatomical inaccuracies, including being much larger than it was in reality and without feathers. It is also well known to paleontologists, with over a dozen recovered fossil skeletons—the most of any dromaeosaurid. One particularly famous specimen preserves a Velociraptor locked in combat with a Protoceratops.

3B Scientific Meiosis Cell Division II Anatomical Chart, Oversize Poster Recent Review

This poster is wonderful. The illustrations are sized to be placed in front of the classroom and illustrate and explain properly the subject of meiosis, so that students enjoy the class. The packaging is wonderful because it allows their transport from one place to another and care for the integrity of the product. I am very happy with this purchase.

Budget Skull With Cervical Vertebrae With Stand (CS20V) Reviews

HmmmmmmHonestly, this item is very bad condition. far far away from perfect condition.Cervical curve is not normal(reverse condition haha).and removable teeth are easily lost.Despite of low price, I'm so regret and disappointed~
    - amgiman

the skull is somewhat useful... i am a medical student and while the skull has most of the important features it was not assembled well, you can tell the different pieces were glued together and some don't fit very well, i actually broke it apart and glued it back together myself to make it fit better, also, many of the important holes, while indicated by small depressions, are not actually holes which can cause confusion.... also BE AWARE the description states that this model contains the vertebrae and artery but IT DOES NOT, it is simply the skull with removable teeth
    - thewuerf

I needed this skull to help my studying for my Anatomy and Physiology class. I placed my order on October 13th, it shipped the same day and I received it on October 14th, without paying extra for quick processing/shipping. I couldn't ask for swifter service. The skull bones/sutures/foramens/processes/etc are easily identifiable and will help so much with my studies. It has a nice weight to it, unlike some incredibly light and unrealistic skull replicas that the Bio lab at college has. I don't know how others are..but seeing a picture or drawing in a textbook just isn't enough when it comes to learning body parts. Seeing exactly where something is and holding it in my hand helps me understand it so much better. I will definitely be ordering from this company again, soon! I wish more companies were like this one, taking pride in their products and service...kudos!
