Since my original 1-star review of this net, American Educational sent me a replacement at no cost. My son has been by the net for a couple of months and, while it isn't exact, it is much better than the net we formerly expected. The metal ring has held up well and the net has stood up to numerous trips to the park. The only problem we've had is that the telescoping action stopped working after only a couple of days. The handle won't lock into place and would slip from short to long. A bit of packing tape fixed that issue, but of course the net can't be collapsed to a shorter pole.Agreed the better performance of this net, I'd now rate it three stars. I also wouldn't hesitate to diplomacy from American Educational over again after experiencing their commitment to quality customer benefit!(original review follows): We've purchased quite a few insect nets over the past few years for our son. He surely puts them owing to a workout, by them to catch everything from butterflies to snakes to frogs. I picked this net for him based on price and for features like the modifiable handle. Unfortunately, this net did not meet even the lowest possible standards. We got the net mid-April, and as of the end of June, the net is broken and completely unusable. The sad part is, my son barely even used this net. He took it on maybe three outings and by no means actually caught no matter what thing. Initially, the modifiable handle got stuck in the shortest position. Not even the help of a wrench could loosen it. Then, the metal ring refused to stay locked in place. Finally, the metal part holding the ring to the handle simply snapped. Not from rough use, or even gentle use! I would not recommend this net to anyone at all. We once had bamboo nets from the dough store that lasted an entire summer and held up to much more abuse than this net!

I was searching for two butterfly nets that I could reduce the size so I can put them in my luggage to consequence in in vacation. They did the job, but ruined really fast. More be fond of a brood toy. Will not buy those over again.

This net is a great use instead for fly swats when a few mosquitoes or grating flies make their way into your household. The typical fly swats will leave squashed bug inscription on painted interior walls and I in some way often miss killing the bugs although I hit them frankly. With this net, I can catch them in midair or simply place over the bugs with its large 14" opening. I keep getting hornets and bees into the household as well, so a tool like this is invaluable to catch them safely. It's surprisingly hard to find a clad insect net at retail supplies, so I'm very happy that I took a chance on this Amazon hold despite considering a few unenthusiastic reviews. So far, the net is holding up fine and it's very light to swing almost. I doubt it'll break unless I misuse the tool or hit something hard inadvertently. At this price, I'd just get another substitution if I in some way end up breaking it in view of the fact that I love it so much by now. If I see a bug, I can catch it now whether it lands or not!Bring up to date 12/2013: The net held up fine through many uses and I was able to use it to rescue two birds by now. One was a hummingbird that just couldn't map out how to get back out of my car garage hovering almost the garage ceiling, and another thing was for a Carolina Wren that built a nest on my front door circlet. The wren flew inside the household when I opened the door in the evening, and there's no way I could've spellbound her safely if not for a tool like this. You must definitely have one of these almost with long extending poles, even if not for catching insects.

The handle is very low quality. I'm not sure about the net part because the seller didn't disturb to send it. I might be able to use the handle like a control baton but I think I'll restore it and buy a better net from a bigwig else. Don't waste your cash unless you're looking for an aluminum stick.

The handle and the net are suppose to be screw collectively. The net had male threads and the handle had female. The problem is that they weren't the same threads. The two of them simply would not assemble collectively. I got a refund for the product.

Not with the intention of I aspire to bump hummingbirds, but as they get into my garage I aspire to steadily get them out.

I love how portable this net is; it folds up to fit reasonably nicely in a bag or backpack. However, the net is a tad bit lingering and tends to squash larger butterflies if you catch them including it, so I united the mesh together in this area 1/3 of the way up to initiation a larger sack for them. Positively skilled quality as lingering as you're not super rough including it, splendid value for the price!

Great lattice, well through. My daughter kindness it and we by now bump a hardly any bugs and butterflies. It doesnt harm the insects.

I purchased this last time to catch butterflies with my daughter. It works well for that - the long net makes it easy to capture the butterfly in the net lacking letting it getting away starting after being scooped in. You simply twist your wrist after capturing the butterfly, folding the net over the seem so that it is closed. It is not above all harsh (none that I have seen so far are), so I would not recommend it for small children. If you're not slamming it into the disturb a curfew and things (like a child will), it holds up just fine. For older children and adults, it works great.
